The amount of transportation projects nominated for the 7th annual America’s Transportation Awards was unprecedented with a total of 73 projects from 36 states being nominated. The projects do make a difference in improving the nations infrastructure.
The winner of the grand prize was California’s Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the $6.3 billion project replaced an 80 year old structure with a modern bridge with advanced response technology.
The winner of the people choice award was Florida’s Department of Transportation with over 300,000 votes. Their emergency repair plan was executed and had a vital Jacksonville crossing reopen 12 days ahead of schedule. Both of these winners were presented with a $10,000 to give to the charity of their choice.
