Knowing how many parking spots are available before getting to a truck stop is a simple yet necessary technology that is currently being developed in Minnesota. Minnesota especially has a major problem with overcrowding truck stops, while unknown stops are underutilized, this results in the dangerous act of trucks stopping on highway shoulders. The state has received a $2 million grant to fix the problem.
Cameras at truck spots will show truck drivers how many spots are available before the get to the truck stop via signs on the highway a few miles ahead of the stop, via website, as well as directly to trucks equipped with compatible technology.
