BI-WEEKLY MARKET RECAP: JAN 17, 2022 – JAN 28, 2022

This is a bi-weekly series that brings the insights we use to get your shipments from A to B from our carrier sales floor to your home office.

This week, Loadsmart’s Chloe Cas, breaks down what happened last week and what to expect this week in the freight market in less than 2 minutes.

WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK

Capacity and rates were challenging due to winter weather in the Northeast. All ports still remain clogged. Late January brings the Chinese New Year which typically hits the West. However, that might be a good thing for us because the ports can catch up while production shows down a bit.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEK

Cold temperatures are coming this upcoming week. Expect more increases in Outbound tender rejection on top of last week’s half a point increase. Volume has risen and rates are still high. We are seeing volumes above what we saw in January 2021. We expected it to be softer and quieter, however that’s not what we are seeing. Keep a lookout for the rise of 5G technology. We see that it can affect cargo transport in major cargo airports such as Memphis, Louisville, LAX. Miami.
