The Past, Present, and Future of Kamion!

Kamion, now known as Loadsmart Carrier TMS, was acquired in November of 2021 with the intention of leveraging Kamion’s carrier network with the Loadsmart platform to be one step closer to removing the barriers between shippers and carriers-so freight can move in the most efficient, transparent, and automated way. 

In an effort to support carriers with offerings that break down traditional barriers between shippers and carriers, let’s take a look back at the first big push Loadsmart made to support carriers, where they are now, and what is in the works to support a carrier’s full book of business in the coming years.

THE PAST: KAMION

In 2016, the truck management system Kamion was built by a carrier who had the desire and drive to create a centralized suite of optimization tools for small and mid-sized motor carriers. He wanted to equip his own business for success, but also wanted to empower and enable other carriers to operate competitively, profitably, and sustainability. 

In December of 2021, Loadsmart purchased Kamion (now known as Loadsmart Carrier TMS) to support carriers’ ability to increase efficiency and profitability, reduce empty miles, and enable better, more informed decision-making. Fleets adopting Kamion also benefit from intelligent dispatching, driver management, general accounting and integrations with QuickBooks and the major ELD providers – a one-stop platform where carriers can manage their whole business and operational needs.

After acquisition, Loadsmart set out to bring the foundational mission of Kamion to life, which involved building out Kamion to have features that allowed every department within a trucking company to operate. The first big step was connecting dispatch to accounting, and then layering in the features that management needs to give a better view of how a company is actually performing – such as how profitable their business is on a weekly basis or who is performing best among drivers and dispatchers. 

After building out the load and fleet management foundations, more focus was put on expanding Kamion’s capabilities and offerings to support larger carriers of 20-100 trucks, who had a full team within their back-office operations, safety and compliance departments, and accounting department. 

THE PRESENT: LOADSMART CARRIER TMS

Kamion was built by carriers for carriers, so even after it was acquired, Loadsmart is continuing to put customers/carriers first – bringing them into the conversations to gather feedback, talk through challenges they face in the current market, and test new features. 

Now known as Carrier TMS, it continues to evolve alongside Loadsmart and the carriers we work with. In order to make the experience for carriers more simple and consistent throughout all Loadsmart products, Carrier TMS now lives within the Loadsmart domain.

Despite the name change, carriers’ everyday operations continue to use the same great TMS to capture and track all of their performance data (on-time delivery, tender acceptance, etc) in one place. Read more about all that Loadsmart’s Carrier TMS offers here.

THE FUTURE: LOADSMART

Loadsmart’s Carrier TMS is just one offering that Loadsmart offers to carriers.
