Inside One Loadsmart: Building AI for Enterprise Shippers

Key Takeaways

  • One Loadsmart brought about 116 R&D team members to Florianópolis.
  • The goal was to align the team on how Loadsmart builds with AI.
  • Over four days, 16 squads built and demoed 21 AI agents.
  • The strongest of those AI agents will be developed further.

One Loadsmart was a four-day gathering of Loadsmart's entire R&D organization, held in Florianópolis, Brazil, from September 28th to October 1st, 2026. It brought together about 116 team members from engineering, product, and design, and it was the first time in four years the full team had met in person. With everyone together, the week was built around one theme, "People and AI, forward together." The plan was to strengthen relationships, align on where R&D is going, learn from customers and other companies, and turn strategy into action as Loadsmart builds toward 2028.

On the morning of Day 4, the final day, 16 squads presented to the whole R&D organization, one after another. Each squad had five minutes, no slides were allowed, and every demo had to credit the people who built it. By lunch, everyone in the auditorium had seen 21 AI agents built during the week, on real problems across Freight Services, Opendock, and ShipperGuide.

Here's what the team built, what they heard, and how the week connects to Loadsmart AI, our AI agents for Enterprise Shippers.

21 AI agents from one day of building

On Build Day, squads built 21 AI agents on real problems across Freight Services, Opendock, ShipperGuide, and the way our own engineers build software. Every engineer got hands-on time building, so each AI agent came from the people who know that problem best.

On Demo Day, all 16 squads presented their AI agents to the whole organization in five-minute demos, so everyone in R&D saw what every other squad built across every product line. These are Build Day prototypes, and the strongest of them will be taken further.

Hearing from Shippers and Peers

Part of the week was spent learning from outside R&D, with sessions on how other companies are putting AI to work and what shippers need from it.

Outside perspectives came from a fireside chat panel with leaders from Stone, DoorDash, and Laboratório Hacker. For an R&D organization in the middle of its own move toward AI-native work, hearing from companies in other industries gave the team a wider view of what that shift looks like in practice.

A customer panel brought the shipper's side of the story. Our engineers heard directly from shippers about their operations, which is the day-to-day reality the AI agents squads build are meant to support.

Rethinking How we Build Software

On the morning of Day 2, all of R&D worked through a workshop on the AI-driven development lifecycle (AI-DLC), a way of building software where AI agents do much of the work and people steer and review it. Everyone helped define what that looks like at Loadsmart, which is a key step in our move toward becoming an AI-native company. Next, Loadsmart is bringing that way of working to more teams.

This isn't a team experimenting with AI. This is a team that has decided to be AI-native, and that's a different company than the one we were a year ago.

The People Side of the Week

After four years apart, the week started the way a reunion should. Team members arrived in Florianópolis and gathered by the water before the agenda had even begun.

When the sessions kicked off, the human side of the theme got its own time on the agenda. A hands-on workshop covered the skills that stay human in the AI era, like judgment, creativity, and relationships, with team members out of their seats and working in small groups.

Squads worked side by side and shared meals together in person, which a global team rarely gets. So by the time all 16 squads stood up for Demo Day, they were presenting to the people they had spent the week building, learning, and sharing with. A special thank you to Julian Lorenzo Farrapeira, CEO of Wellbeing Leadership®, for being part of One Loadsmart.

Our R&D team is growing, and we’re hiring in Brazil. If this sounds like a team you’d want to build with, see our open roles.

What Comes Next

Felipe Capella, Loadsmart's Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, closed the week with his vision for the company and why Loadsmart AI matters. From here, the work continues in two ways:

  • AI-DLC expands to more teams across R&D.
  • The strongest Build Day AI agents will be developed further.

Frequently Asked Questions

What was One Loadsmart?

One Loadsmart was a four-day gathering of Loadsmart's R&D organization in Florianópolis, Brazil, from September 28th to October 1st, 2026. About 116 team members from engineering, product, and design spent the week building AI agents, learning from shippers and other companies, and working on how the team works together.

What AI agents did Loadsmart build at One Loadsmart?

Squads built 21 AI agents on real problems across Freight Services, Opendock, ShipperGuide, and internal engineering work. Examples include an AI agent that reads driver paperwork at the gate to speed up check-in and an AI agent that books the next open appointment slot at an Opendock warehouse.

What is an AI-driven development lifecycle (AI-DLC)?

An AI-driven development lifecycle is a way of building and running software where AI agents do much of the work and people steer and review it. Loadsmart's R&D team defined its approach to AI-DLC at One Loadsmart and is bringing it to more teams.
